Oscar: Wilde quirks of life and literature

Context: Kicked out of a restaurant for being "too witty". Had a Dandy look fashion. His tombstone is covered in lipstick kisses, but wait, he was homosexual- in the 1800s! But of course, he was married to a woman, Constance Lloyd, and had 2 kids.

As you might have guessed, Life & Quirks of Oscar was, for sure—Wilde!

Unpopular opinion: Wilde would've been a Twitter sensation. Only if, he was not born in the wrong era. In fact, he's 'too cool' even for today. 1800s—simply couldn't handle him. Imagine having a Pet-Lobster, inspired by poet Gérard de Nerval. Oscar had this flamboyant personality, and his sharp social critiques left the crowd speechless.

“Aestheticism is my gospel” (he tried to copyright this)

Only Oscar could handle the criticism of being "grossly indecent" in Victorian Ireland—with grace and, of course, fashion. Regardless of the infinite criticism that is faced for passionately loving another man, Lord Alfred Douglas (popularly Bosie), who turned out to be the son of the Marquess of Queensberry. Naturally, the society returned to his passionate, tumultuous affair with Wilde's infamous trial, conviction & imprisonment. Only Oscar – popularly – made his trials a comedy show with his quirks.

This multitude of personality was a potential fashion diva, a living work of art.

"One should either be a work of art or wear a work of art"

Oscar was a perfect rebel dandy who rejected all societal expectations and Victorian morality. His non-conformity with 'decency' is evident in his sharp humour, unparalleled wit & personal catastrophes.

"Some cause happiness wherever they go; Others whenever they go"  (a classy way to say GTFO)

I feel it was tragic for Oscar to be born when the society was not ready for him. Heart-wrenchingly, he lived in exile in France, financially ruined and socially ostracised, parting ways from his love, Bosie. Wilde's "one of a kind" life ended in 1900 beside Robert Ross – his literary executor & early partner who remained devoted to him through his downfall; till his last breath. Pure devotion.

P.S: Yes Oscar, you died during a conversation. You said, "Either that wallpaper goes, or I do."

Spoiler: the wallpaper won.
